Only the second wedding ever to take place at the top of London’s Gherkin at St Mary’s Axe in the City of London. We met Gareth, the Usher’s and Best Man at the nearby Threadneedles Hotel and found the Boys calming the nerves with a snifter or two.

The Victorian banking hall turned city boutique hotel is nothing if not a multitude of textures and complementary tones, a perfect blend of past and present. Voted by Conde Nast Traveller as one of the top 50 hotels in the world.

We arranged for the traffic to pause and took this shot it is surprising how quiet this part of London is on a Saturday.

It’s quite a view from 40 floors up, looking west. The building is made of 10,000 tonnes of structural steel, which is the equivilent of 71 double-decker buses and 24,000 square metres or the equivilent of 5 football pitches of glass cladding.

The couple’s Civil ceremony lasted around 25 minutes 

Gareth and Penny were a joy to work with, patiently posing for our cameras.

As always I prefer to start the day with some shots of the brides preparations, here we are up in one of the lovely bedrooms Buxted Park is renowned for.

A breezy day at Buxted Park Hotel provided us with an extra element of movement, photographer Paul Johnson added the chiffon to accentuate the effect. 

We prefer to use available light wherever possible as in this shot.

One of our first assignments of 2008 was to film a wedding in India for Sneha & Veerinder. The location was beautiful Udaipur in Radjistan and was the 3rd part of a 4 part wedding celebration spanning 18 months.

We had filmed part 1 and 2 in London during 2007 and this was the biggy with 200 guests flying out to Mumbai from the UK. We joined the celebrations after a tour around India taking in the Taj Mahal and a week relaxing in Kerala at the lovely Leela Kempinski Hotel.

Here we are on the day of the wedding on Lake Pichola at Udaipur.

November and low light could have been a problem for us, but with new cameras from Sony we are able to work in quite dark conditions without the need for lights. I also to took the steadicam for a spin and fitted our 35mm lens adapter, which makes video look like film.

The wedding of Lisa & Khayyam at Rhinefield House the only 4 red star hotel in the New Forest.

The diffused light of an overcast sky or hazy sunlight was ideal for filming.
